**FSU Men’s Basketball Offseason Thread #2: Roster Updates, Portal Entries, Transfer Additions**

 

As the Florida State men’s basketball team continues to adjust during the offseason, Coach Leonard Hamilton and his staff have been active in shaping the roster for the upcoming season. With several key departures and some intriguing additions, there’s plenty to digest as the Noles aim to bounce back after a tough 2023-24 season.

 

### **Roster Updates & Key Departures:**

 

The Seminoles saw a few players enter the transfer portal, marking a shift in the team’s landscape. Notably, **Matthew Cleveland**, who was one of the standout players last season, has entered the portal. Cleveland’s departure leaves a significant void on the wing, as he was the team’s top scorer and a key contributor on both ends of the floor.

 

Another notable departure is **Caleb Mills**, who exhausted his eligibility, leaving behind a leadership gap at point guard. Mills had been a steady presence for FSU, especially in clutch moments, so replacing his experience and scoring ability will be a priority for the coaching staff.

 

### **Transfer Additions:**

 

To compensate for these departures, FSU has been active in the transfer portal, adding some promising talent. The Noles have secured a commitment from **Jameer Nelson Jr.**, a transfer from George Washington. Nelson, a dynamic point guard, brings with him excellent ball-handling skills, scoring ability, and the leadership needed to fill the gap left by Mills. His ability to run the offense and facilitate for others should be a major asset.

 

In addition, **Derrick Whitehead**, a forward transferring from Memphis, is expected to contribute immediately. Whitehead’s versatility and defensive prowess will bolster FSU’s frontcourt depth, especially with the loss of veteran players in the paint. His ability to stretch the floor with his shooting will also add a new dimension to the team’s offense.

 

### **Incoming Freshmen & Impact:**

 

FSU has also secured several talented incoming freshmen, including **Isaiah Livers**, a highly-rated wing player with an excellent basketball IQ and the ability to defend multiple positions. Livers’ development throughout the summer will be crucial to the Noles’ success, as the team seeks to integrate him into their system quickly.

With a mix of returning talent, new transfers, and promising freshmen, FSU’s roster is in transition but still has plenty of potential. The coaching staff’s ability to gel this new group together will be key in determining whether they can return to their competitive form
