Fabio Carvalho Brace sets Hull City play-off place alive

Hull City needs to win six more games to secure a play-off spot, and their chances of doing so were enhanced on Saturday as the Tigers returned to form with a well-earned 3-1 victory over Cardiff City.

Just moments after Karlan Grant had pulled the Bluebirds back into the match, Jaden Philogene struck again, his sixth and seventh goals of the season. Fabio Carvalho, a talented player on loan from Liverpool, opened the scoring with a brace in the first half.

Although City is six points behind Norwich, who hold the final play-off spot, they still have a game against another top-six opponent, Coventry, on Tuesday. Despite this, the team’s morale is still good ahead of their next home games.

Although they haven’t been playing well at home lately, Carvalho says the players are aware of how important it is to turn things around and will seize the chance when Middlesbrough and QPR arrive this week.

The Portuguese star told Hull Live after the victory in South Wales, “As a team, we did (deliver as Rosenior asked), which is the most important thing.” “We followed the game plan because we know what needs to be done to win three points. We know what we need to work on and will address it in the upcoming game. There were moments when we could have played a little bit better.”

“We’ve emphasized that (the home form), and we’ve emphasized that now is the ideal moment for both team and individual peak performance. This is the ideal moment. We definitely can’t let games pass us by because that’s the only time we have left.

“Our manager is among the best in the league, if not the greatest, so we simply need to keep following the plan. We’ll keep following the game plan because we have good players, and we’ll see where it takes us.

“We need to to approach every game as if it’s our last game and every game as if it’s a big game and I feel like that’s where we’ve been lacking lately.”

Prior to the match in the Principality, City was under pressure because they hadn’t won in six games. and Norwich’s victory against Ipswich earlier in the day, but Carvalho asserts that his teammate is unable to consider their competitors.

“To be fair, we’re not really focused on other teams,” he said. Since we can only focus on ourselves, it is the most important thing we are doing. The important thing is that we actually have no idea what other teams do or achieve.

“All we have to do is concentrate on the next game, taking each one as it comes. The playoffs are not something we seriously consider. Though it’s undoubtedly on our minds, the next game is what matters most.”
