The Houston Texans, possibly the most unexpected team in the NFL this season, are on the verge of clinching a berth in the 2017 NFL playoffs, with rookie quarterback C.J. Stroud having an opportunity to impress in his first year in the league.
Unfortunately for the Texans, Stroud is still in the league’s concussion protocol, which means he will miss a second straight game when the Texans visit the Cleveland Browns at NRG Stadium on Sunday.
Not having Stroud under center for this game against the Browns is a huge setback for the Texans, as it definitely affects their chances of winning, with Case Keenum expected to start again.
Even though Keenum was able to lead the Vikings to a win against division opponent Tennessee Titans last week, the Browns are an altogether other beast, boasting one of the league’s greatest defenses this season.
Fortunately for Houston, Stroud is improving and will most likely return to the field in Week 17 to face the Titans for the second and final time this season, with head coach DeMeco Ryans providing a positive update on his rookie quarterback, according to NFL Network’s Stacey Dales.
The club’s success for the rest of the regular season and, if they make the playoffs, will be totally dependent on Stroud’s health, as he offers this team a higher opportunity to win when he’s healthy and on the field.
It will be intriguing to see how this squad finishes the season and whether they can finish on a strong note with Stroud back on the field.
