At the European Athletics U18 Championships in Banska Bystrica on Saturday morning, rising Czech talent Filip Toul achieved the first leg of a possible distance running double by winning the men’s 1500m with a strategically sound run.

Toul remained a watchful observer throughout, perched over the shoulders of the early leaders, France’s Alois Abraham and Italy’s Luca Cavazzuti.
