Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner gives his verdict on Michael Olise’s performance against Manchester United

Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner disclosed that Michael Olise’s two goals in a 4-0 victory over Manchester United were sparked by a motivational speech he heard in the Craven Cottage shower.

With a sophisticated brace on Monday night, Olise, who has made 12 Premier League starts this season, reached 13 goal involvements (nine goals and four assists). Olise was at his brilliant best.

When Olise looked frustrated following the 1-1 draw away to Fulham one week prior, things were different, but his manager’s advice turned things around.

In the 12th minute, the 22-year-old took advantage of a mistake made by the Brazilian by the center circle, leaving Casemiro sprawled on the ground. He then raced to the edge of the box and rifled into the bottom corner to open the scoring.

After 66 minutes, Olise glided past Andre Onana and embraced Glasner on the touchline. This led to the arrival of a second for Olise.

“We spoke when he was in the shower following the Fulham match,” Glasner disclosed.

He had three or four shots, but they were blocked or he hit the keeper squarely, so he was a little let down. We talked, and he frequently fires long-range shots.

“Maybe try close to the post; the goalkeepers might be taken aback,” I said. In this instance, he shot close to the post and scored. This all began at Craven Cottage after the shower.

Long before Olise put up such a brilliant performance against United—one of many teams that had been linked to him in recent months—there had been speculation about his future.

Although Glasner has admitted that it will be difficult for Palace to retain all of their best players this summer, he is not yet prepared to consider the next campaign.

“This is not the time to discuss next season,” he insisted. Even in May, it’s still quite chilly.

Gareth Southgate, the manager of England, was present for Olise’s most recent outstanding performance, which was born in Hammersmith.

Olise can play for England, Algeria, Nigeria, and France at the senior level, though it appears that he has indicated that he wants to do so.

Olise’s late attempt to make the England squad for Euro 2024 this summer appears doubtful, but Adam Wharton, his Palace teammate, might not rule it out.

Wharton, 20, has thrived since relocating to Selhurst Park from Blackburn in January. He was a major contributor to Tyrick Mitchell’s third goal against United.

Wharton was also observed conversing with Jean-Philippe Mateta at halftime, and it seemed that he was giving the seasoned forward several directives.

Glasner praised Wharton’s performance, saying, “The second half was excellent.”

The fact that a twenty-year-old man speaks to JP Mateta demonstrates his mindset and character, but it also demonstrates that JP is paying attention to him.

“I truly enjoy working in this environment as a manager.”
