At the World Mixed Doubles Curling Championship in Östersund, Sweden, Canadian team Kadriana and Colton Lott secured their spot in the playoffs with impressive performances in their final group-stage games. The husband-and-wife duo from Gimli, Manitoba, concluded the round-robin phase with a perfect 8-1 record, tying with Sweden, who clinched the top spot due to their earlier win against the Lotts.

On Thursday, the Lotts demonstrated their skill and determination by defeating Australia 11-4 and the United States 12-6. Their strong finish showcased their ability to rebound from challenging situations. “We had a few rocky ends, but we sharpened up what we had to and finished strong at the end,” Kadriana Lott remarked. This resilience was evident in their game against the U.S., where Canada responded to a late American surge with a decisive six-point end in the seventh.

The Lotts’ journey now leads them to face Estonia’s Marie Kaldvee and Harri Lill in the qualification round. The winner of this match will proceed to the semifinals against Norway’s Kristin Skaslien and Magnus Nedregotten, who emerged as Group A winners. The medal matches are scheduled for Saturday, and the Lotts are focused on performing at their peak. “We know that going forward, we just have to leave it all out there and give it all we have,” Colton Lott stated.

In their preliminary round games, Canada showcased their strategic prowess and adaptability. Against Australia, they overcame a narrow lead by scoring multiple points in decisive ends. The game against the U.S. saw a similar pattern, with Canada initially leading but needing to fend off a comeback to secure the win.

The other qualification game will feature Switzerland and Scotland, both finishing with 6-3 records. The winners of these matches will face Sweden’s Rasmus and Isabella Wrana in the semifinals. As the championship progresses, the Canadian team remains optimistic and determined to build on their strong performances and capture a medal.
