Cleveland Guardians hope to have three key starters back from injury

The Cleveland Guardians top the most recent MLB power rankings and have the greatest record in baseball. Despite winning six of their previous eight games, the starting pitchers for the Guardians have had injury struggles.

Cleveland hopes to have recovered from its injured rotation, but the team’s most recent injury reports are inconsistent, with some key pitchers on the verge of returning and others still sidelined. The greatest story is that Tanner Bibee, the star of the Guardians, will not make his scheduled start on Saturday. Right shoulder stiffness will cause the 25-year-old righty to be pushed back, according to Zack Meisel of The Athletic on X.

Before suffering a hip injury that ruined his season, Bibee was among the best rookies in baseball. Despite this, he was voted second for Rookie of the Year. And Bibee had another outstanding year in 2023 to cap off a fantastic campaign. Thus far this season, he has a 9-4 record, a 3.48 ERA, a 1.093 WHIP, and 132 strikeouts in 121.2 innings pitched. He has made 22 starts for the Guardians and has generated 1.9 WAR.

When Cleveland plays the Baltimore Orioles on Saturday, Meisel says youngster Joey Cantillo will take Bibee’s position on the mound. Cantillo stumbled in his major league debut last weekend, allowing three earned runs in 3.1 innings against the Philadelphia Phillies.

Alex Cobb, the newest starter for the Guardians, was acquired during the trade deadline from the San Francisco Giants. Cobb hasn’t yet made his 2024 debut, though. After undergoing surgery on his left hip over the offseason, the 12-year veteran’s right shoulder became inflamed during his rehabilitation, and in April he was placed on the 60-day disabled list.
