At the Motonet GP in Oulu, Finland, on Sunday, Estonian middle-distance runner Uku Renek Kronbergs achieved a new 800-meter personal best.
Despite not being a member of the Estonian team that participated in the last Olympics in Paris, the 20-year-old Kronbergs, pictured, finished third on Estonia’s all-time list of personal bests over 800 meters.
With a time of 1:47.56 for the two laps at the Oulu stadium, Kronbergs beat his previous personal best of 1:48.16 from the Estonian Championships last year by 0.60 seconds.
Local athlete Joonas Rinne finished ahead of Kronbergs with a time of 1:47.32.
With a timing of 1:49.17, Niko Viljola completed the top three, followed by six more Finnish racers.
Karl Erik Nazarov, the Estonian 100-meter record holder, won in Oulu in 10.37 seconds, while Marielle Kleemeier placed eighth in the 800-meter women’s race (2:12.49).
