Lapcevich, who finished first in the 2023 NASCAR Canada championship after winning seven of 14 races, signed a full-time contract with Chad Bryant Racing to compete in the CARS Tour this season and gain experience in American racing.
After overtaking pole-winning driver Brenden “Butterball” Queen, Lapcevich looked to be winning until a collision occurred with four of the 125 laps remaining, leaving fluid on the course.
When the caution came out, Lapcevich got trapped in the fluid, slid, and almost crashed into Brandon Pierce’s stopped car, but he managed to go past him and the wall.
The 20-year-old Grimsby, Ontario, native then skillfully fended off Corey Heim’s late-charging charge on the decisive restart to win his first series.
In Victory Lane, a jubilant Lapcevich exclaimed, “It’s just unbelievable.” “I owe a debt of gratitude to everyone who has supported and encouraged me to reach this milestone. I’m very appreciative. I got a really nice automobile from these guys at Chad Bryant Racing.
“I can’t wait. We’ve been operating quite well, I think, but tonight we were finally able to put one together.
