BREAKING:New Zealand Warriors forward decides on his future

New Zealand Warriors star Mitch Barnett and a member of the NSW Blues team, has decided to commit to the NRL for another two years.

Barnett signed a two-year contract extension with the Warriors on Friday, confirming his intention to stay with the team until the end of the 2027 campaign.

“Webby has arrived, and I feel like we click well together. He seems to understand it instantly. He grasps rugby league. Life finds him. In a statement, he stated, “He gets the mixture.”

“I required a little adjustment. I needed to push myself and get outside of my comfort zone because I felt like my career and form were stalling out at Newcastle. I came here to prove my worth.

For the previous two seasons, Barnett has been playing at his greatest level, averaging 142 running metres and 30 tackles per game.

Michael Maguire chose him for the NSW Blues starting lineup for the first game of the 2024 State of Origin series as a result.

After spending two games with the Canberra Raiders and 126 games with the Newcastle Knights, Barnett, a two-time NSW Residents representative, joined the Warriors at the beginning of the 2023 season.

The New Zealand Warriors’ general manager of recruitment, pathways, and development, Andrew McFadden, adding, “Having Mitch on board for the next three seasons is so important for the club.”

He embodies every trait we look for in a player, making him a fantastic asset.

Raised in Wingham, New South Wales, Barnett will play in his 29th game for the club this weekend against the Melbourne Storm. Prior to the team’s announcement following Round 15, he will try to impress NSW Blues selectors.

According to New Zealand Warriors head coach Andrew Webster, “Mitch absolutely epitomizes toughness, resilience, and leadership.”

“He gives the team everything and more, whether he’s in the front row or on the edge.”

“Mitch was the bond during the difficult time we went through. He truly deserved his call-up to Origin having worked so hard. He meets all the requirements. He improves the harder it gets.

“Off the field, he has a huge impact on the team and demonstrates a great deal of passion for the club.” Our affection is for him.
