BREAKING:Montreal Canadiens are set to sign Veteran Free Agent Forward

If the Montreal Canadiens are interested in signing unrestricted free agent Max Pacioretty and can come to an agreement, they may consider bringing back a well-known player to the Habs fold in the offseason.

There will be no announcement of the Habs organization’s plans. However, in what he thinks to be “a way to find closure for Pacioretty and Habs fans,” Blain Potvin of The Hockey Writers reports that “some are hoping to see Max Pacioretty return to Montreal as a UFA.”

As the captain of the Habs, Pacioretty earned the “C” for the team over the first ten years of his career while playing for the Canadiens. Potvin believes he might provide the squad with an experienced presence while it finishes its rebuilding.

According to Potvin, “a return as they are working their way out of a rebuild could be fitting.” He captained the Canadiens during a difficult time.

The Canadiens have $10.2 million in cap room to bolster their squad, according PuckPedia. As of July 10, 19 of the 23 players on Montreal’s roster were under contract.

AFP contract estimates, as cited by Daily Faceoff, indicate that Pacioretty should be available for a one-year deal worth $1.5 million, which comfortably fits inside Montreal’s salary space.
