BREAKING:London Marathon opens charity ballot

The London Marathon organizers have extended an invitation to charitable organizations that do not already have a spot in the race to apply by vote.

There are 500 running slots available in the event next year, and UK-registered charities that did not hold spaces for the 2025 marathon this year can now apply.

The deadline for charities to apply for free spots in the marathon ballot for the next year is August 1st, 2018.

The 500 winning charity will then be chosen at random by London Marathon Events (LME), and they will need to pay a fee of £400 + VAT by August 9th to reserve their spot.

Since then, the poll has not been held by the organizers, who have instead reallocated spots from the postponed 2020 event. Over £2,600 is typically raised with a charity entry in the TCS London Marathon. “We work with more than 2,000 charities every year, and fundraising is at the heart of the TCS London Marathon,” stated Hugh Brasher, chief executive of LME.We are happy to offer 500 additional charity the chance to participate in the 2025 event. “We will be celebrating the 45th edition of the London Marathon, the largest annual one-day fundraising event in the world, so it will be an extremely special year.” It was revealed the day following the 2024 event that the amount raised had already established a new global record.
