BREAKING:Keshad Johnson joins the Miami Heat

The Heat announced in a press release that they had signed forward Keshad Johnson to a two-way contract, making them the first NBA team to formally fill all three of its two-way contract slots for the 2024–2025 season.

Johnson, a 6’7′′ swingman out of Arizona who was not selected in the recent draft, spent his first four seasons as an NCAA eligible player playing for San Diego State. He then transferred to the Wildcats during his “super-senior” year.

With a shooting percentage of.530/.387/.710 in 2023–2024, he averaged 11.5 points, 5.9 rebounds, 1.8 assists, 1.0 steals, and 0.7 blocks per game. Just after Thursday’s draft ended, he and the Heat came to a two-way deal.

Johnson becomes the third member of Miami’s two-way squad to officially sign a contract today, following Zyon Pullin and Dru Smith. While teams are not permitted to formally execute trades or some types of signings during the July embargo, two-way agreements can be finalized during that time.

Though Miami still has two-way qualifying offers out to Cole Swider and Alondes Williams, it’s not a given that Johnson, Pullin, and Smith will still be in those spots by opening night because two-way contracts don’t count against the salary limit and carry minimal guaranteed money. However, it appears that Miami’s 18-man roster should at least give the three players who are presently under contract a chance to start the season.
