Head coach Steve Sarkisian’s 2025 recruiting class has some momentum after the Texas Longhorns made two commitments last week and saw success on the field. On Christmas Eve, Nashville (Tenn.) Ensworth defensive lineman Ethan Utley listed the Longhorns among his top five colleges.
For the consensus four-star talent, who has had 40 offers in total—from Auburn, Florida, Georgia, LSU, Miami, Michigan, Missouri, North Carolina, Ole Miss, Penn State, South Carolina, and Texas A&M, among others—Michigan, Oklahoma, Syracuse, and Tennessee also made the cut.
The 6’4, 270-pound player is acquainted with the Texas program, having received an offer during a camp held on the Forty Acres last summer. This camp was a crucial component of Sarkisian and position coach Bo Davis’ defensive linemen assessment process. Utley went back to Austin at the beginning of November to see the Longhorns defeat the Wildcats in exciting overtime. In the fall, Utley also had unofficial visits to Tennessee, Michigan, and Texas A&M. Syracuse, which had Elijah Robinson as its offensive coordinator at the time, had overtaken Texas A&M as Utley’s favorite school.
According to the 247Sports Composite rankings, Utley is listed as the No. 11 defensive lineman and the No. 11 player nationally. He has established himself as a major target for the Longhorns at his position in the 2025 cycle.
