For the second time in three days, left-hander Marco Gonzales was moved on Tuesday, this time from the Atlanta Braves to the Pittsburgh Pirates. Gonzales will be traded to Atlanta for either cash or an unidentified player. As part of the agreement, Pittsburgh received cash as well. The Seattle Mariners traded right-handers Jackson Kowar and Cole Phillips to the Braves on Sunday in exchange for cash, outfielder Jarred Kelenic, and infielder Evan White.
The 31-year-old Gonzales last threw on May 28. He then went on the injured list and had forearm surgery in August to fix a nerve problem, which ended his season. During his ten starts this season, he was 4-1 with a 5.22 ERA. After nine years in the major leagues, Gonzales has three complete games in 163 appearances (155 starts), a 4.14 ERA, and a 65-49 record. In 2024, Gonzales will earn $12 million in the last year of a $30 million contract that spans four years. A $15 million club option with no buyout for 2025 is part of the deal.
