Breaking News: Doncaster Rovers has completed the signing of Tom Nixon

Following Tom Nixon’s strong performance in South Yorkshire during the previous season, Hull City has accepted an undisclosed offer for the defender from League Two team Doncaster Rovers.

The youthful player signed a three-year contract with Rovers, solidifying a permanent agreement. City had earlier this summer exercised Nixon’s option year, following the conclusion of his season-long loan term at the Eco-Power Stadium.

After Nixon played 32 times in an exciting season that saw the team move from relegation hopefuls to play-off semi-finalists in the span of a record-tying run of 10 straight wins, Rovers boss Grant McCann, the former City head coach, made the 22-year-old a major summer target.

Regretfully, a second-leg home loss to Crewe Alexandra dashed Nixon, Rovers, and fellow Tigers loanee Thimothee Lo-Tutala’s prospects of promotion to League One.

The City goalkeeper has stated that he plans to try and impress new Tigers head coach Tim Walter during preseason. The League Two promotion hopes had hoped to have the goalie back for the upcoming season.

After being with his hometown team since he was a young child and rising to the position of Under-18 captain for the Potters, Nixon was released by Stoke City and joined City in July 2021. He then moved to East Yorkshire after a fruitful trial under Andy Dawson.

Even though the attacking right-back joined City three years ago in the hopes of securing a spot in the starting lineup, he was never able to make a senior appearance.
