Dak Prescott was accused of sexually abusing a woman seven years ago, but Dallas police said on Thursday that they will not press charges against the Cowboys quarterback. After an investigation, it was concluded that there was insufficient evidence to prosecute Prescott. Levi McCathern, the quarterback’s attorney, released a statement saying, “I want to thank the Dallas Police Department and Dallas County District Attorneys’ office for their thorough investigation of the allegations against Dak Prescott.” “As we anticipated, they uncovered nothing in their thorough investigation of the facts to warrant a criminal prosecution.”
The information was released in the same week that Yoel Zehaie, the accuser’s lawyer, filed a move to dismiss Prescott’s case against the accuser. Prescott is requesting $1 million in response to what his lawyer claims was an attempt on the woman’s part to extract money. They allege that in order to have the sexual assault accusation dropped, the woman requested $100 million. In civil court, the women’s lawyer also filed a countersuit. In a statement released on Thursday, McCathern stated, “We are certain that the accuser and her attorneys will be found just as guilty as Dak is innocent at the conclusion of law enforcement’s inquiry into the extortion case.
“As I have stated from the start, Dak is a tremendous football player and a better person overall. He never would hit a woman. Seven years after the purported incidents, these fraudulent claims were raised for one reason and one reason only: to enrich the accuser and her legal team. All of the genuine survivors of sexual assault are offended by such actions. Prescott’s lawsuit “was meant to silence his sexual assault victim,” Zehaie said this week on WFAA-TV in Dallas.
