Liam Rosenior, the manager of the Tigers, is at ease with the state of affairs and believes that now is not the appropriate moment to talk potential new contracts at Hull City.
After last weekend’s 2-2 draw at his former club Swansea City, where he came off the bench to create both goals, defender Cyrus Christie—one of the players whose contracts expire in the summer—spoke to the media about his desire to stay at City beyond June, along with Greg Docherty, Aaron Connolly, and Adama Traore.
Christie’s two-year contract has a 12-month option available to City, but talks have not yet begun, and the Tigers are currently in the thick of the play-off fight following Tuesday night’s convincing 4-1 victory over Rotherham, in which the defender once again showed off his skills.
The City manager told Hull Live, “Cyrus has been magnificent, especially in my time working with him.” He has a pretty good effect on the players in the locker room. He lets me be (adaptable in my style). In my system, Cyrus is capable of playing five various positions, as demonstrated on Saturday (against Swansea).
It’s about collaborating with Cyrus for me. I couldn’t be happier with him; all we need to do is make sure that the contract talks happen at the appropriate moment.
“Cyrus plays a major role in what I’m attempting to accomplish here, and if he continues to play the way he does, he has nothing to worry about at all.
“The club made that decision. I am aware that this is what the club does both now and before I joined; they include an option in each player’s contract. I believe the players are now aware that my decisions are based entirely on performance. I watch after you if you do well. Not only should performance be considered, but also character, culture, effective leadership in the changing room, and other crucial factors.
“I operate on the basis of trust, so if we get along well, you won’t need to worry about anything. We all have decisions to make, whether it be for Cyrus, Doc, Adama, or any other club in the Championship, but the season is still very early and there is still a lot of football yet to be played.”
