Belgian sprinter Cynthia Bolingo sustained an injury during a 400m race in Italy

Cynthia Bolingo had to withdraw from the 400-meter race in an Italian athletics event on Wednesday due to an injury she suffered, just nine days before the Paris Olympics began. This situation reminds me painfully of the last Olympics in Tokyo, which Bolingo was injured and missed.

Bolingo was participating in the northwest Italian region of Liguria at the Meeting Arcobaleno. She pulled out of the third and final heat around the midway point. La Derniere Heure received confirmation from her coach Carole Bam that she had a calf injury.

“This issue is the same as it was in April [during a training camp] in Curaçao,” Bam stated. Bolingo then suffered a calf injury that kept him out of the Bahamas World Relays. Due to additional disruptions to her training, she was only able to compete in the 4x400m relay rather than the individual 400m event at the European Championships in Rome in June.

On Thursday morning, the 31-year-old will return to Belgium for an ultrasound. It’s

Bolingo, the team captain for the women’s 4×400-meter relay team known as the Belgian Cheetahs, placed fifth at the World Championships in Budapest the previous year. She excels in the mixed relay team as well, which is competing for medals in Paris.

She had a hamstring issue that caused her to withdraw from the Tokyo Games in the last minute in 2021.
