Baltimore Orioles set to sign superstar closer Josh Hader

Early in the winter, there was conjecture that the Baltimore Orioles might actually start spending in free agency in order to bolster their competitive roster.

People close to the team have been dubious about this idea because it would go against the ownership group’s and front office’s previous mentality.

But according to an MLB insider, they have gotten in touch with numerous more well-known arms in addition to renowned closer Josh Hader.

It appears that the Orioles may be willing to spend money in order to get players who will assist them win a World Series.

According to Jeff Passan of ESPN, another player who Baltimore would be interested in acquiring has supposedly been made available for trade.

“The Cleveland Guardians are open to dealing [Emmanuel] Clase, their All-Star closer who has led the AL in saves for two consecutive years, sources told ESPN,” he stated in a piece.

The Orioles may reconsider their approach of pursuing the relievers they have already contacted if they attack the trade market to acquire a talent like Clase. This is because it looks more in line with their historical operating procedures.

Given the abundance of potential in their farm system, Baltimore possesses the best trade packages to offer other teams. They wouldn’t be concerned about the money to acquire the superstar righty because they are still making judgments based on the budget.

“Clase’s contract enhances his appeal even further. In 2024, he owes $2.5 million; in 2025, $4.5 million; in 2026, $6 million; and in 2027 and 2028, he has club options worth $10 million. At those prices, any baseball team could afford to sign Clase,” says Passan.

This gives Baltimore another opportunity to add elite talent this offseason. There have been no indications that the Orioles have contacted the Cleveland Guardians to inquire about the right-hander’s market value or degree of interest.
