Amid contract negotiations, Cowboys’ Lamb and Vikings’ Jefferson skip workouts

While discussing their contracts, two of the best wide receivers in the NFL on Monday decided not to show up for optional workouts.

CeeDee Lamb of the Dallas Cowboys and Justin Jefferson of the Minnesota Vikings were not at their respective team facilities, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

Prior to their existing contracts expiring in 2025, both players are attempting to negotiate new deals in order to remain with respective organizations.

Regarding his fifth-year option, Lamb’s 2024 salary is $17.991 million. According to Rapoport, negotiations for a longer deal haven’t advanced much, so Lamb will most likely wait till things improve.

Lamb finished the 2017 season with 135 catches, 1,749 yards gained, and 12 touchdowns—more than any other player in the NFL.

Because the Vikings exercised their fifth-year option, Jefferson’s basic salary in 2024 will be $19.743 million. He attended the required workouts last year but ignored the optional ones as well.

A new contract between Jefferson and the Vikings was nearly reached prior to the 2023 season, but it fell through. The general manager of the Vikings stated that this season, Jefferson should be compensated similarly to the top receiver in the league.

There may be further pressure on the Vikings and Cowboys to finalize deals with their best receivers, after the Eagles recently awarded DeVonta Smith a $75 million extension.
