Despite not wanting to be, Nikola Jokic is among the most well-known NBA players in the world. Although Jokic’s preference for disappearing during the summer is already well known, the extent of his desire to do so has never been revealed.
During his appearance as a guest on Michael Porter Jr.’s Curious Mike podcast, Jokic discussed his aspirations for the future, his ideal post-retirement lifestyle, and his feelings regarding his celebrity status.
“Being famous, some people like it, some people don’t,” Jokic said to Porter Jr. “When I finish my career, I really wish nobody knows me. I wish my kid or kids in the future…remember me as a dad. I think that’s gonna be my goal in life.”
Similar to Kawhi Leonard it seems like Jokic really doesn’t want to live the superstar life and just wants to be a basketball player. In fact, he doesn’t like being a celebrity at all.
“I really don’t like this life because, at the end of the day, we are just basketball players,” Jokic said. “We are just good at what we are doing. But the media is something that is around us, and, of course, we are getting paid because of the media, because of our popularity.”
Jokic has one unexpected, seemingly unachievable objective in mind for the future. Nikola Jokic desires to have no phone at all, whereas Kawhi Leonard does not use social media.
“To not have a phone, that’s another big goal of mine,” Jokic said. “Just to live in the moment, be a normal person,” he said. “Go drink with your buddy or go have lunch or go play with your kids or go ride horses, and nobody’s going to make a big deal of that.”
The level that Jokic revealed the type of person he is on the Curious Mike podcast was something very special – a moment that could only happen between two teammates. Hopefully, he will show more of himself in the future.
