Regarding a pair of their main targets for 2025, Josh Heupel and the Tennessee Volunteers received some hopeful news on Friday. The Vols have advanced to the finals for Jaime Ffrench and David Sanders, Jr.
For the former, the Vols were already a big deal, so the news doesn’t really matter. On August 17, however, five-star lineman Sanders declared his collegiate destination, and On3 Sports’ Steve Wiltfong projected that Sanders would sign with the Vols.
It is usually advisable to take predictions with a grain of salt because they are not always correct. Sanders, Jr., along with other 2025 recruits George MacIntyre, Ethan Utley, and DaSaahn Brame, visited the school at the end of July, according to the Vols. MacIntyre ought to be employed by Heupel; he has been actively pursuing new hires.
However, it is significant and noteworthy that French listed the Vols as a finalist. The finalists were revealed by Hayes Fawcett of On3 Sports, and Ffrench quoted tweeted the news along with an emoticon, presumably validating it.
Of course, Heupel would be very interested in Ffrench, and given the Vols’ recent success with their wide receivers and passing game, who’s to say the team doesn’t have a puncher’s chance? If you challenged me, would I wager on the field instead of the Vols? Sure. The Vols will still be playing and will have a hat on the table, though.
We’ll see if Heupel can make Ffrench pause before making his announcement on August 30. The Vols’ current top 10 class will take a significant boost if Heupel can get the commitment of even one of the two.
Furthermore, you can’t rule out the Vols shocking the 2025 recruiting landscape by snagging both of them, given the momentum Heupel has established this summer with a series of big pickups. By the time toe meets leather against Chattanooga on August 31, we’ll know if Heupel has succeeded in doing so.
