Since Ben Roethlisberger retired, the Pittsburgh Steelers have struggled to find a star quarterback. This is similar to many notable NFL clubs that had a franchise quarterback guiding their team for an extended period of time.
Despite playing in what is arguably the toughest division in the NFL (the AFC North), the Steelers have managed to stay competitive and consistently make it to the NFL playoffs, even though they have failed to find a franchise quarterback in the post-Roethlisberger era. Most recently, the team traded Kenny Pickett to the Philadelphia Eagles.
Thankfully for Pittsburgh, the team’s management was keen to make a statement over the offseason, and they succeeded admirably by acquiring Justin Fields and signing former Super Bowl victor Russell Wilson.
Even though Wilson is already battling with a calf injury, the quarterback depth chart in Pittsburgh is looking quite nice right now.
In the first round of the NFL Draft, the team selected offensive guard Troy Fautanau with the goal of improving offensively during the 2024 season. In the third round, they selected Roman Wilson, a talented wide receiver who is already making an impact in training camp.
With Wilson amid a solid group of wideouts that includes George Pickens and Van Jefferson, Wilson or perhaps even Fields, whichever prevails in the quarterback competition in Pittsburgh, will have no shortage of targets in the passing game.
The Steelers might be a club that has turned things around offensively in 2024, but only time will tell how things work out for them.
