Nicole Yeargin on her traumatic Olympic disqualification

Nicole Yeargin acknowledges that she was terrified for a very long time following her 400-meter disqualification at the past Olympic Games, even though it had killed her.

The track star from Scotland is certain that her ambition of competing in the Games is still alive and well after working with a mind guru to help her mentally and physically get in gear. As a member of the women’s 4x400m relay team, Yeargin is traveling to Paris. However, three years prior, she was also vying for an individual medal after finishing third in her heat. However, she was disqualified from the final due to a lane infraction. The 26-year-old claims that the upsetting experience continues to motivate her in her pursuit of achievement.

“I guess so!” she uttered. I believe that fear and anxiety overcame me, and you consider that each time you hit the track. The worry and the anxiety were what were killing me. Because of this, working with my mentality coach has been incredibly beneficial in helping me to understand that we have a race strategy. It has greatly helped that you know what to tell yourself when you go into that mode.

“I feel like I haven’t done much since I got DQ’d from the heat,” the author says. It’s nice to feel like I’m finally returning, so I was happy to run a 51.3 last month—that was my quickest time in two years.

Yeargin, who has two bronze medals from world championship relays in 2022 and 2023 in addition to a bronze from the European championship in 2022, is a member of the seven-person 4x400m relay team that is traveling to Paris.

She participated in the women’s and mixed 4x400m teams that placed fifth and sixth in the finals in 2021. In 2022, she helped Scotland win the bronze in the Commonwealth Games relay. As she attempts to finish the collection of medals in Paris, she already has a place on her wall. “I want to give my team an additional 49 split,” she declared. Although I was unable to reach the individual, I will always give the relay my all.
