Faith Kipyegon gives her verdict ahead of the Paris Olympics

Faith Kipyegon, the holder of two world records, is crossing her fingers for an injury-free Olympic campaign in Paris this month.

Kipyegon stated that she is more certain than ever that she would have another outstanding performance at the quadrennial games after setting a world record in the Paris Diamond League.

“Setting a new world record gave me confidence that I’m headed in the correct way for the Olympics in Paris and championship defense. The two-time Olympic 1500-meter winner added, “I hope everything goes on well…injury free and we pray to God that everything will go well at the Paris Olympics.”

Kipyegon had just finished her first race of the year in the national trials held in June at Nyayo Stadium in preparation for the Paris Olympics. There, she had secured a spot in the women’s 1500m and 5000m events.

Due to her struggles with injuries, the two-time world 1500m champion was unable to compete in the Prefontaine Classic Diamond League in May in Oregon.

After winning the national trials, she had an incredible race in the Paris Diamond League at the start of July, capping off an incredible comeback from injury.

In the women’s 1500m, Kipyegon broke her own world mark of 3:49.11 with a time of 3:49.04, solidifying her place as the world’s fastest in the three-and-a-quarter lap competition.

She had already broken the world record in Florence, Paris, and Monaco, making it her fourth break in nearly a year.

Returning to the French city, Kipyegon hopes to win three consecutive Olympic gold medals in the 1500m women’s division.

Every race will be addressed at its own time by us. “My primary objective is to defend my title, so I will first try my hand at the 5000m to see what I can do before moving on to the 1500m,” she declared.

Kipyegon will be competing in the 1500m with Susan Ejore and Nelly Jepchirchir.

In the women’s 5000m, she will be joined by world 10,000m record holder Beatrice Chebet and bronze medallist Margaret Chelimo from 2022.
