BREAKING:58-year-old grandma finishes 3rd at US Olympic race walking event

American Michelle Rohl made a comeback to the U.S. Olympic Team Trial last week, her third-place finish in the 20-kilometer race walk (which took her an hour, 42 minutes, and 26 seconds), not quite fast enough to meet the Olympic Standard and guarantee a spot in the Paris Games, but good enough to place her among the top three American women. Rohl made her first appearance in the Olympics nearly 32 years ago, representing Team USA.

Rohl demonstrated her ability to compete at a high level even after retiring to homeschool her children 20 years ago with her third-place finish. At the U.S. Olympic Team Trials this year, Rohl was the oldest competitor.

“I finished third in my first Olympic trials in 1992, the same year I gave birth. I’m third again, and I have a grandchild. That seemed sort of nice, in Rohl’s opinion, she told Olympics.com.
