Blockbuster Move Shakes the WNBA: Indiana Fever Appoint Championship Coach Becky Hammon to Replace Stephanie White
INDIANAPOLIS — In what is being hailed as one of the most astonishing coaching shifts in modern women’s basketball history, the Indiana Fever have sent shockwaves across the WNBA by appointing two-time championship-winning head coach Becky Hammon to take the helm.
The jaw-dropping organizational shakeup sees Hammon replace Stephanie White, signaling a high-stakes operational pivot by the Fever front office as they look to capitalize on the generational talent of superstar point guard Caitlin Clark and elite forward Aliyah Boston.
A Seismic Shift in Indianapolis
The announcement came after intense speculation regarding Indiana’s strategic trajectory. Despite building momentum and boasting one of the league’s most potent offenses, front-office executives ultimately decided that navigating the franchise’s next chapter required a coach with a proven championship pedigree.
Hammon, who built a powerhouse dynasty with the Las Vegas Aces and earned acclaim for her tactical mastery, championship culture, and player-first leadership, now brings her resume to the heartland.
> “We are entering a transformative window for this franchise,” a senior front-office source noted. “When you have dynamic, franchise-altering talents like Caitlin Clark and Aliyah Boston, the standard isn’t just making competitive playoff runs—it’s raising banners. Becky Hammon has proven she knows exactly what it takes to reach the pinnacle of professional basketball.”

The End of Stephanie White’s Tenure
Stephanie White’s departure marks a sudden and poignant end to her second stint with the organization. White, a beloved local figure who won a championship with Indiana as an assistant in 2012 and spearheaded successful playoff runs, brought tactical structure and veteran poise to a young, rapidly evolving core.
While White helped establish crucial chemistry between Clark and Boston, the front office concluded that a change was necessary to elevate the franchise from contender to champion. White leaves behind a roster primed for long-term success, but the expectations surrounding Indianapolis basketball have officially reached unprecedented heights.
