This week, the Bengals had a thorough examination of two outstanding offensive line prospects. The Bengals welcomed Washington offensive tackle Troy Fautanu on a top-30 visit on Tuesday, according to Jordan Schultz of Bleacher Report. According to Ryan Fowler of Bleacher Report, the Bengals are reportedly planning a top-3 visit with offensive tackle Taliese Fuaga of Oregon State.
Fautanu became a full-time starter in Washington between 2022 and 2023 after redshirting as a freshman and making only sporadic appearances in the 2020 and 2021 seasons. His 2023 campaign culminated in him being named to the first team of the Pac-12. Fautanu’s performance helped him move up the draft boards as well because it is anticipated that he would be called up at some time in the first round.
Along with Fautanu, Fuaga is an offensive tackle vying for a first-round selection. This past season, the Oregon State product was also named to the first team of the Pac-12. The prospect’s offensive line IQ has been praised by scouts, and some believe he could play both guard and tackle in the NFL.
The Bengals don’t really need an overtime because Trent Brown was signed to start alongside Orlando Brown Jr. But the Bengals still need a swing tackle, and they would love for a rookie to give Brown some competition at right tackle, as Paul Dehner Jr. of The Athletic pointed out yesterday.
In the unlikely event that the Bengals decide to select an offensive lineman in the first round, Dehner does not see the coaching staff experimenting with the rookie’s position. According to Dehner, the Bengals “really like the progress” of Cordell Volson, but Alex Cappa is set in one guard slot.
