SARANTINOS TO STEP DOWN AS PARRAMATTA EELS CEO AFTER A DECADE OF LEADERSHIP
In a seismic executive shift for the National Rugby League, Parramatta Eels Chief Executive Officer Jim Sarantinos has officially announced he will step down at the conclusion of the 2026 NRL season. The decision brings an end to a stellar decade-long tenure at the club, paving the way for a high-profile leadership transition in 2027.
Sarantinos, who first joined the organisation in 2016 before taking over as CEO in 2019, has been the architect behind one of the most successful commercial and operational turnarounds in modern rugby league history. Taking the reins during a turbulent period for the club, Sarantinos restored stability, integrity, and elite performance standards across all departments.
During his ten years in Blue and Gold, Sarantinos transformed the Eels into an off-field juggernaut. Under his guidance, the club tripled its commercial revenue, smashed all-time membership records, established the Eels Foundation and Eels Institute, and successfully delivered a state-of-the-art Centre of Excellence. On the field, his tenure was highlighted by five NRL finals appearances, including a memorable Grand Final berth in 2022.
End of an Era
Reflecting on his decade of service, Sarantinos expressed deep gratitude to the club, its corporate partners, and the passionate Parramatta faithful.
> “After 10 years with the Parramatta Eels National Rugby League Club, I have decided to step down as CEO at the end of this season,” Sarantinos stated. “The Eels have meant so much to me, both professionally and personally, and I will move on incredibly proud that I leave the club in a better place than how I found it. We have strengthened its foundations, returned to the Grand Final, achieved record membership, and delivered a world-class facility, but the part I am most proud of is the people and culture we built along the way.”

Parramatta Eels Chairman Matthew Beach paid rich tribute to the outgoing executive, highlighting the steady leadership Sarantinos provided. “Jim has helped guide the club through one of the most significant periods of transformation in our history,” Beach said. “He has always led with integrity, passion, and an unwavering commitment to the best interests of the Parramatta Eels.”
Eels Target Blueprint Succession
With Sarantinos set to finish the 2026 campaign, attention immediately shifts to the battle for his replacement. Reports indicate the Eels board has set its sights on Penrith Panthers chief executive Matt Cameron to take the helm from 2027 onward.
Cameron, who previously served in junior development and coaching roles at Parramatta early in his career, is widely regarded as one of the game’s top sports administrators after overseeing Penrith’s modern-day dynasty.
While the Eels undertake a formal recruitment process, securing Cameron would represent a massive coup as the club prepares for its next era of growth, backed by world-class infrastructure, strong financial standing, and a thriving junior academy.
