The Curling Group acquires Grand Slam of Curling from Sportsnet
The Grand Slam of Curling and the sport itself are about to undergo seismic shifts.
Following the end of this week’s Princess Auto Players’ Championship, The Curling Group, a new business supported by elite worldwide curlers looking to invest in promoting the sport, struck an agreement with Sportsnet on Tuesday to acquire the series from the broadcaster.
As scheduled, the world’s best men’s and women’s curling teams will compete in five competitions during the 2024–25 Grand Slam of Curling season.
“The series has a legacy, tradition, and history that are impossible to duplicate,” stated Nic Sulsky, CEO of The Curling Group. “Myself and my partners are not taking this opportunity lightly. We have the chance to take the Grand Slam of Curling to the next level, revitalize it and add some elements of re-branding, and inject a new level of energy — not only into the events themselves but, call it, the “shoulder content” that surrounds all the events.Even while it could have been simpler to start from scratch, being able to construct the next phase of the curling sport’s evolution ultimately proved to be more advantageous.
