The former Newcastle United and Sunderland man had joined a non-league outfit last month having departed QPR in the summer.
Ex QPR midfielder Jack Colback has announced his retirement from professional football having left Loftus Road as a free agent at the end of the 2024/25 campaign.
The 36-year-old had joined non-league side Anstey Nomads a month ago but only made one appearance for the Northern Premier League Division One Midlands club. Colback made 24 Championship appearances in his final season at QPR, missing a chunk of the campaign due to injury.
The midfielder’s final goal for the R’s came in a 2-1 win over Blackburn Rovers in February 2025. Colback began his career with Sunderland and went on to make 135 appearances for the Black Cats before moving to Newcastle United in 2014.

The player won the Championship with the Magpies in 2017 and achieved promotion from the second tier with Nottingham Forest via the play-offs in 2022. In a statement on Monday, Colback said: “I feel privileged to have the honour of playing nearly 500 matches at the top level, representing some of the biggest clubs in the country in Newcastle, Sunderland, Nottingham Forest, Ipswich and Queens Park Rangers.
“From pulling on the shirt for the first time as a young lad to stepping out in front of packed stadiums in the Premier League, it’s been a journey I’ll always be grateful for. There have been highs, lows, promotions, tough defeats, and moments I’ll never forget.
“I would like to thank all of my coaches, teammates and supporters who helped me to achieve my dream. Looking forward to what the next chapter holds.”
Colback spent two years on the books at QPR and had been a big part of the work done by former head coach Marti Cifuentes. At the time of his departure, R’s CEO Christian Nourry said: “Jack formally left us following the expiry of his contract at the end of last season but there was always a possibility something could happen over the last two months.
“While that hasn’t been the case, the club is grateful to Jack for his efforts over the past two seasons, where his ability and experience were hugely valued by the group. We thank him and wish him every success for whatever comes next.”
