Hull City owner Acun Ilicali gives his verdict amid Shelbourne move

A plan to purchase a football club in Slovenia is nearing completion for ambitious Hull City owner Acun Ilicali, who wants to grow his network of sports teams.

Ilicali, who has been the Tigers’ owner since January 2022, has been searching Europe for his next possible purchase since taking over Irish team Shelbourne in June and giving it up in November.

“We have some plans for the future but not only for Hull City, we want to create a football world around Hull City to catch new possibilities,” Ilicali stated. “We want to buy a different football team. The head of UEFA assisted us as we visited clubs in Slovenia and Greece. We were unable to achieve success in Ireland, and it appears that Slovenia will be the main focus for the time being.

“I believe in multi-club operations because it gives us the possibility to catch players who cannot play for Hull City (until they can secure a visa) so they can train with another club.”

The owner of City, who has led the Tigers into the thick of the Championship promotion race with nine games remaining, is enjoying the end of an exciting season. Although everyone’s attention is focused on finishing in the top six, he says that getting to the Premier League is not his ultimate goal.

The aspirational City owner stated, “Our goal is to represent England in European football if we can make it to the Premier League.” “We constantly need to set new goals in order to stay motivated.

“I have never been content with my accomplishments in life; instead, I have always been concerned with what comes next. My desire is for us to gradually advance and continue to improve. Of course, I’ll ask our beloved coach for further improvement if our progress gets us into the Premier League.”

The head of City had his eye on a deal in Greece, but he decided to go after one in Slovenia instead. Earlier this year, he met vice-chairman Tan Kesler and UEFA president Aleksander Ceferen in Ljubljana to discuss moving into the Baltic region. It is understood that the Slovenian head of European football was enthusiastic about the idea.
